拉丁学名：Zea mays L．ceratina Kulesh

事实上还是大植物学家林奈命名的，和“玉米”的学名一样，这是因为糯玉米是玉米的一个亚种（类型）。其糯质性状受隐性基因位点wx控制，籽粒不透明，种皮无光泽，外观呈蜡质状，故又称蜡质玉米。
